Shagbark was an exercise in honoring a historic property. Though few of the original shagbark hickories remain, the ambling drive up to the house is a celebration of mature shade trees with moonlights casting a filtered glow to guide visitors up the ambling drive.

The Conway project was a landscape lighting designer’s dream. We were referred in by an industry partner- and while the client knew he wanted to illuminate the facade and front pillars-he left the rest to our artistic license.

This backyard oasis, located in Libertyville, provides family and friends a getaway from the day’s burdens. Mature, towering canopy trees are meticulously washed with subtle light to provide a sense of closure and security.

Approaching the home, the illumination subtly plays with shadow, emphasizing the softness of the front landscape while protecting the privacy of the home.

Built for entertaining, this elongated suburban back yard can be made to feel intimate or expansive as the occasion demands, whether it is being used for small family gatherings or for large groups.

Skillful landscape lighting transforms trees into sculptures, surfaces into patterns, and dark vagueness into liveliness. It recognizes, through the manipulation of light, shadow, and color, what daylight often overpowers.

Blending traditional charm with modern amenities, Night Light installed a sophisticated new landscape lighting system to enhance the country club experience and foster patronage of the club’s restaurant, bar, and banquet room facilities.

The landscape lighting system installed at this home utilizes time-tested techniques and specialized technologies. Hidden fixtures highlight the form and structure of key legacy trees in scale with the height and size of the house for visual equilibrium after dark.

This residence in Naperville was destined to become a masterpiece in moonlight. The subtlety of cool white illumination painted across great swathes of vegetation, secluded staircases, the bocce court and seating area amplifies their daytime grandeur.

This fabulous home in North Barrington features a gorgeous waterfall as the backdrop to an enormous patio surrounding an in-ground pool. 

Strip lighting under the bridge gives the illusion that the structure is hovering just above the water, as if held aloft by light alone.

The symmetry of the home’s front facade required careful positioning of the fixtures in order to achieve uniform lighting from side to side. The decorative pendant and wall-mount fixtures were dimmed to balance their brightness with the landscape lighting.

Views from inside the house looking outward were of prime consideration as that is the most prevalent perspective. The lighting we installed enhances a sense of depth in the composition and eliminates the “black mirror” effect when looking out of the windows at night.

Night Light worked closely with the homeowners and the landscape contractor in advance of the landscape installation to verify adequate power needs, determine outlet placement, map-out cable runs and install sleeving under the hardscape to protect the electric wire and allow for future feeds.

The many-layered character of one of Night Light’s oldest projects lends itself to a design with a sense of depth and texture.

Making the most of the prevalent mature trees, an all-over luminosity was achieved using a moon-lighting technique that positions specially-engineered LED fixtures high in the tree canopy to project shadows downward through the branches and leaves.

The client and landscape designer wanted a special whimsical treatment for the outdoor fireplace that would set it apart from the other garden spaces and be visible from distant areas on the property.

Special features in the landscape, like this elegant pergola, become the focal point of evening activity outdoors with artful illumination. The landscape lighting provides a safe way-finding from the house to the pergola and accents the interesting stonework.
